UAV Development Summer Intern

Job Summary

Looking forSummer, or Fall 2020 UAV and drone development intern! 

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work with our experienced software engineers to build UAV and drone algorithms, simulations, and run them on hardware. This position requires someone who has an eye for detail and is passionate about drones. 

As an intern, you will receive a combination of practical experience and training in a work environment that fosters and rewards cooperation, teamwork, learning, and fun. 

This internship will prepare you for a career at MathWorks starting in our Engineering Development Group (EDG). 


After training on MathWorks development processes and tools, you will work with the UAV team on:

  • Integrating with autopilot and ground station software used in UAV development
  • Prototyping algorithms for aerial motion planning, mission planning, post-flight analysis, UAV modeling and simulation
  • Prototyping communication interfaces to popular drones and autopilots, such as DJI, PX4, and MAVLink 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must be pursuing a master's level or a PhD level degree in a technical discipline.
  • Familiar with MATLAB

Additional Qualifications

  • Pursuing an MS or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with a strong academic record
  • Expertise with algorithms for autonomous aerial vehicles
  • Familiarity with common hard- and software platforms, such as PX4, Ardupilot, and MAVLink
  • Experience in programming and object-oriented design
  • Familiarity with objected-oriented and embedded programming (C/C++)
  • Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS), Gazebo, and V-Rep
  • Strong communication skills
  • 3 months full-time commitment
