FEA (Finite Element Analysis) Software Development Intern

Job Summary

Looking for Summer 2020 finite element developer intern! 

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work with our experienced software engineers to build curl conforming finite elements for electromagnetics applications. This position requires someone who has an eye for detail and is passionate about reliable, high performance numerical software. 

As an intern, you will receive a combination of practical experience and training in a work environment that fosters and rewards cooperation, teamwork, learning, and fun. 

This internship will prepare you for a career at MathWorks starting in our Engineering Development Group (EDG). 


After training on MathWorks development processes and tools, you will work with the PDE Toolbox team on:

  • Developing the weak form of Maxwell’s equations using a curl conforming vector basis
  • Implementing shape functions and developing boundary conditions to support discontinuities at the interface boundary
  • Demonstrating the capability by solving benchmark examples 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates must be pursuing a master's level or a PhD level degree in a technical discipline.

Additional Qualifications

  • Pursuing an MS or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with a strong academic record
  • Experience programming with C++ and MATLAB
  • Strong communication skills
  • C or FORTRAN experience is a plus
  • 3 months full-time commitment 

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with Finiite Element Analysis
  • Experience with Computational Electromagnetics
