Parts
In the Serial Link Designer or Parallel Link Designer app, a part associates an IBIS model and a timing model for a device. Parts are central library elements and you must define them prior to performing analysis.
Models are referenced by their part name during pre-layout analysis and by the CAD part number during post-layout verification. You can customize the parts as you need by defining IBIS and timing options. You can import the IBIS file and automatically create a part into the project library. For post-layout verification, the CAD part number allows parts in the board database to automatically map to parts.
In the app, you can:
create a new part,
edit or delete existing parts,
define part modeling options, and
add CAD part numbers.
Create New Part
To add a new part to an interface, click Libraries > New Part from the app toolstrip. This opens the Edit Part Properties dialog box.
The Target Library list shows all the part library paths.
You can define the name to use for the part using the Name parameter. This name appears in the list on the Edit Part Properties dialog box during pre-layout analysis. You can also browse to the name during post-layout verification.
Define the IBIS file to use for this part using the IBIS File parameter. You can browse and select an IBIS file that is in the existing library or import an IBIS file that is outside of the library search paths. You can also edit the IBIS file after it is specified. You can create a new IBIS file from post-layout PCB database data.
The IBIS Component list shows the IBIS components in the specified
IBIS File. These are defined with the [Component]
keyword in the IBIS
file. The IBIS Options parameter specifies the options for the
preprocessor. The Model Selectors parameter shows any model selectors
from IBIS [Model Selector]
keywords in the specified IBIS component.
Selecting a model from the list sets the model that is used by default in
simulations.
In Parallel Link Designer app, you can specify the timing model and options using the Timing File, Timing Model and Timing Options parameters: You can browse and select a timing model file that is in an existing library or generate a timing model template from the IBIS component data. You can also edit the timing file after it is specified.
Note
You cannot specify timing model and options in serial link projects.
The CAD Part Numbers parameter contains one or more part numbers that may be on the component in a PCB database. In post-layout, this allows the part to be associated with the board component automatically.
Edit Part Properties
To edit an existing part, click Libraries > Edit Part Properties from the app toolstrip. This open the Select a Parts Properties File dialog box.
The Directory parameter lists all the configured part library paths. The files shown below the Directory parameter are the part files in the selected library. Once you select the part file you want to edit, click the OK button to open the Edit Parts Properties dialog box. You can then edit the properties of the part as before. You can also delete a specific part by selecting it and clicking the Delete button.
Define Part Modeling Options
IBIS model selector options allow you to pass part-specific or interface-specific information to a model. For example, you can control an IBIS model selector or define parameter values that control the preprocessing of IBIS models. For more information, see IBIS and Timing File Preprocessor.
Add CAD Part Numbers
The CAD Part Number parameter is used during post-layout to associate a part in the PCB database with a part. You can assign one or more part numbers to this parameter.
