Simulation slows down with open figures

Hi,
I execute a script that contains a loop to run simulations and plot the data in figures. The first run is very fast. Here the first set of plots is generated (13 plots). When the script does not close all plots with 'close all' simulation time is much longer, about factor 2. I can reproduce the same behavior by creating 10 empty figures and running the script. In this setup already the first run is slow.
It is very helpful for me to keep these plots open.
How can I run the sim quickly with open plots?
Matlab 2011b
Cheers, Frank.

I've not found a solution, but this is my work-around. Separate the plot functions out. Run the simulations and save the data to a file, then load and plot later. On some earlier SIMULINK releases, I've found it useful to use the "TO FILE" rather than "TO WORKSPACE". It's as if it keeps more memory available, and hands the storage of data over to windows - might even use the otther processor core to do it.
