How to read raw speech signal without header in MATLAB ?

I tried this code

 fid = fopen('File_name','r');
 y = fread(fid,inf,'short');
 y = doubel(y);
 sound(y)

but sound is not same as recorded.

Where is the fclose ? If you use fopen then you need to use fclose.

Try these two variations and see which one works for you:

 fid = fopen('File_name','r');
 ybe = fread(fid, inf, 'short=>double', 'ieee-be');
 fclose(fid)

 disp('Big Ended')
 sound(ybe)

 pause(5)

 fid = fopen('File_name','r');
 yle = fread(fid, inf, 'short=>double', 'ieee-le');
 fclose(fid)

 disp('Little Ended')
 sound(yle)

Both are not working.

The speech signal is in raw file format with *.CA0 extension.

I know sampling frequency is 16kHz with 16-bit quantization and first LSB bit (Little endian) as signed integer.

CA0 file extension appears to be a Borland packed archive rather than a raw sound file ?

16 bit little endian at 16 kHz should be

fid = fopen('File_name', 'r');
y = fread(fid, 'int16 => double');
fclose(fid);
sound(y, 16000)

Whatever you are saying is perfect, but the problem is the reproduction of the audio file with the "sound" command is not as in other tools like coolEdit, Audacity, Wavesurfer etc.

Sound quality is without any noise in other tools but not in MATLAB.

Do you have any idea what may be the possible reasons for this?

I trust audioplayer() more than I would trust sound()
