M files recover after deleting partition

Hello,

After formatting my damaged hard disk partition and trying to install ubuntu (only ubuntu folders were installed without the ability of starting the OS), i figured out that some m files that i need were on that partition. I tried to recover using PhotoRec from an external hard disk but only .mat files were supported. Is there any solution to get back the .m files.

Totally unrelated problem to MATLAB...you need file recovery software...not clear if you reformatted the same disk partition or a new drive...if the latter and the old drive will function you can try loading in an external caddy and see what you can find readable on it.

I just posted here this question since recovery softwares give supported extensions and maybe someone here has faced the same problem when seeking for .m files. Any way, thanks for the answer.

If the recovery software won't let you search for any valid filename the OS supports, it's pretty weak. Find some other package--I'm sure there are any number of shareware products online and there's always the commercial offerings if valuable enough.
