Simulate a mechanical system with two masses, connected with springs and a damper

The following code simulates a double mass damping system, under a step input. Such a model can be used to represent a car damper for disturbance rejection. The lower mass represents the wheel, the upper mass represents the body of the car.
The system is solved in two ways, either in classic state space form, or using ODEs.
