how to remove glare of an image with matlab code?

I scanned a filament fuse with scanner. But I found out that fuse image contains a lot of glare or shadow effect and this causes trouble during Image Preprocessing. Any matlab code can use to remove or reduce the glare effect?? Thank You.

You forgot to post the image and say what you want to do or measure with the image. Maybe glare reduction is not necessary or can be avoided through the image capture process. So all I can do now is to suggest you find the articles here: http://www.visionbib.com/bibliography/contents.html
