Perform crossvalidation through matlab.

I have performed polynomial regression on a data set.Now I want to use validation approach to characterize the goodness of fit for polynomials of different order and also distinguish between over fitting, under fitting and best fit. Can I use the 'crossval' function for this purpose.Plz help me write the code.I am new to this !!
