1. From an OCR perspective, I would start off with mapping the characters to the code for the individual characters.

2. Next, about displaying those code, it depends on user locale and system locale. The following is for Russian but I feel the same is applicable to Malayalam. While it is not exactly what you are looking for, it should give you an idea to work off from:
