Can I select a a rectangle of my current desktop and use it as real time for matlab processing?

So I was wondering, is there a way that I could 'fake' real time image acquisition by selecting say a rectangle of my current desktop (the rectangle in which the video output is playing), for matlab to record in real time? so that I can ddo some processing real time?
