Hi, I have to make an experiment where I have to load words and sounds into cogent but I have always used a .dat-file to do this. This is easy to put in a loop but I only have separate sound-files and the words that I need to use.
Can I make a .dat-file with this or is there another way to put it in my cogent?
This is the task to give you a better understanding of my question:
There are six words and six sound files. The six words are bicycle, delicious, neighbour, police, station and students. The six sound files are bicycle.wav, delicious.wav, neighbour.wav, police.wav, station.wav, students.wav. Each word can be heard from one of the sound files however only one of the words is involved in one specific sound file. Prepare certain number of trials so that each word will pair with all six sound files and vice versa. Make sure that there are no more than two repetitions of the trials with either the same words or the same sound files in a sequence. present visual stimulus (word) and sound stimulus at the same time (one immediately following another).
The participant is requested to judge and make a response by pressing ‘Y’ key if the word presented is believed to have been heard from the sound file presented. Otherwise, ‘N’ key is to be pressed. Please note that the word could be heard at any time during the sound file being played so that the time when participant can make a decision could be earlier than when the sound file finishes playing. The word will only present for one second. Thirdly, clear screen and wait until three seconds after the word was presented. Check key(s) pressed and set feedback to display on screen by briefly showing a message indicating the scenario of keypress before a trial ends. Five possible scenarios are listed below.

Ilse - you may wish to direct your question to the authors of Cogent (from http://www.vislab.ucl.ac.uk/cogent.php) whom may be able to respond quicker/sooner to your query.
