Is it possible to extract only the vertical lines of different length using Hit-Miss operation of morphology?

Since Hit-Miss operation can be used for extract the required pattern is it possible to extract all the vertical lines of different length present in an image using this operation? How to select the structuring elements required?

No. You'd basically have to give it every pattern of every size. Better and easier is to just call regionprops and get the Area and BoundingBox. Look at the aspect ratios, BoundingBox(3)/BoundingBox(4) to determine if the line blob is vertical or horizontal.
