Error message: "Unable to read file 'templates'. No such file or directory." in an OCR program.

I got this error the first time I loaded the templates file. Then I noticed there wasn't a file of the sort and I downloaded the templates.m file from a webpage and I still keep getting the same message. My questions are, why didn't I have the templates file in the first place and how do I find a way around this issue? I'd like to mention here that I was using the file for matching characters for an OCR program and I'm currently using MATLAB R2015a.
EDIT: I just replaced "load templates" by "load templates.mat" and the problem was solved.
