connect lines after edge detection

Dear all, i've applied edge detection (sobel) to an image and get red of unwanted objects , but it also deleted some lines from the required objects.

how can i connect this lines again?

use dilation ...and than erosion

As Sean said, it will be difficult to give an exact answer without looking at the image. However, if the aim is to reconnect lines and fill up holes, etc., then morphological operations like dilation, closing, etc may be helpful.

Try out MorphTool submitted by Brett. This will give you easy access to morphological operations in Image Processing Toolbox.
