Turn array with coordinates of two separate surfaces into two separate arrays

I've got a 2-column array with X,Y coordinates of two separate surfaces (see picture). I want to turn this array into two separate ones for each surface, by setting a distance threshold of what is seen as 'attached' and what not. A kind of growth algorithm probably. Does anyone have an efficient script to do this?
