Mesh colormap problem

I am having trouble when specifying a colormap to a mesh graph that is within a GUI. The colormap DOES change as I specify, however it also opens a blank figure window on top of my GUI. I set the colormap to the GUI with colormap(handles.axes2, 'Hot')

I also tried specifying the axes with axes() command

The figure poping up is very likely from a GCA or GCA in the code somewhere. Start systematically walking through the code line by line, you will likely find the exact line of code that does this.

Maybe try breaking down the above line into

axes(handles.axes2)
colormap('hot')
