How do I get MATLAB to do overlapping plots, ie. not erase the old plot when adding to it?

I'm creating a GUI that gets a 'robot' to map out an area, so I need the robot to draw a circle at every different time step to track where it's been.
Is there any way that I can have all these plots overlap without having them on the same plot line? In other words, is a way for the plot function to not erase what was just on the plot screen?

Assuming you are not creating new axes each time ( e.g., using subplot) try
hold on
after creating the initial figure.
