Why do I get the error "subscript out of range" when I am trying to export data to MATLAB using Excel Link?

I am trying to export data to MATLAB from Excel with the Excel Link Toolbox and receive the following error message:

 subscript out of range error.

You will receive this error message if you attempt to export a variable with the same name as a MATLAB function. For instance, if you attempt to export a variable called "try", you will receive this error message because this name coincides with the TRY function in MATLAB.

To work around this issue, use a different name that is not a MATLAB-reserved function name.
