What are the difficulties faced during continuous hand gesture recognition process.

I have come across the terms like co-articulation, gesture spotting in continuous hand gesture recognition. Can anyone please let me know the various difficulties faced.

I imagine they talk about things like shadows, background clutter, speed of gesture changing, snapping "in between" unwanted gestures, bad camera angle, unrecognized gestures, etc.
