Deploy MATLAB with MS Intune

We are currently in the process of transitioning from an on premise SCCM environment to MS Intune.

The current installer is too large to be able to be deployed with Intune as that there an 8GB limit.

Here are the commments from my colleague that is currently working with our server manager on the project.

1. Our current Matlab installation folder on SCCM is over 20GB and Microsoft Intune supports packages up to 8GB in size.

2. We need to find out if there is a more efficient way of installing Matlab (while keeping all of the functionality we currently have).

One thing to note is that when we switch to Intune, all the applications will be downloaded over the Internet instead of being transferred over LAN from the existing SCCM server. Anyway we can decrease the installation media size will greatly help us in future deployments.

I had the need of deploy Matlab to users from Intune (Company Portal)

This is how I solved it.. (Open of other solutions)

I have now got the size down to around 3 gb instead.

This is my process.

1 Download the 227 mb big matlab_R2022b_win64.exe

2 Run the matlab_R2022b_win64.exe

3 Login with an admin account

4 In the top right conner press I only want to download

5 Choose minimum of application to download, I have choosen only the base Matlab and Simulink.

6 After the package has been downloaded you need to edit the installer_input.txt and add the fileinstallationkey, set where to get the license.data file and unhide matlab and simulink.

7 Create script the copy the files to a location

8 Run IntuneWinAppUtil.exe with the standard settings IntuneWinAppUtil.exe -c c:\Source\Matlab\r2022b -s c:\Source\Matlab\r2022b\install.cmd -o c:\Output\r2022b

9 Add the application in Intune and set a security group and you are ready to go.

Hi There! Thanks for providing these instrictions. I got through all of them but I'm running into an issue where Matlab fails to install. I checked the log and it's proceeds to about 20% then fails with the following error "There was an error while extracting product files.Try rerunning the Installer.Source file does not exist". I was reading that it may be because you need to prevent Intune from cleaning up the files before the install finishes. Did you run into this issue by chance?

Hello - having the same issue with the ~2gb intune install is faliing around 20%

In case this helps others. Open a ticket with the Intune group (open a support ticket from the Intune blade) and request that the 8GB size be increased. Mine is currently set to 30GB which covers all of the applications in our envirnoment including Matlab and the Adobe Suite.
