fast interpolation for uniform grid

For repeated interpolation calls, the griddedInterpolant is much faster than interp1. However, MATLAB's interp1 used to have an option for faster behavior when the grid was uniform (method '*linear', which now reverts to 'linear'). A simple code for linear interpolation on a uniform 1-D grid can approach an order of magnitude faster than griddedInterpolant.

There are a number of functions on the MATLAB File Exchange to do this, but is there an approach using griddedInterpolant that can achieve faster results?
