ssim was added to the Image Processing Toolbox in R2014a. If your company/university is current on maintenance, you should be able to upgrade at no additional cost.

The old version of matlab still can use SSIM right ? do you have any sample code ? really need it for my project..

Yes, you can write your own and use it in R2013b.
There's no reason for us to reinvent the wheel for something already in the product.

SSIM is in the Image Processing Toolbox:
To find out what version first started carrying the ssim() function you'll have to examine all the release notes: http://www.mathworks.com/products/image/whatsnew.html Or for your version, just check the help. If it's in the help, your version has it.

image analyst. do you have any sample coding that i can follow ? the first link you just give i already follow it but cannot work.
