global optimization without toolbox?

Is it possible to do global optimization without the toolbox in matlab? The only documentation I can find is for the toolbox, my apologies if this is a dumb question. Thanks!

You can always code your own algorithms, or look at what others have offered on the File Exchange. There seem to be a few genetic algorithm implementations there,
