Hello All -
Just switched to R2022a from R2020a. I think it was a good move but still deciding! There are a couple of changed behaviors I noticed with Simulink, specifically when opening a Matlab Function block, the text editor is now docked in the Simulink model whereas before it was undocked, i.e., it opened in a separate window external to the Simulink model. The same behavior exists for the XY Graph block in R2022a but not in R2020a.
Has anyone determined if you can undock the windows for these blocks so they are not embedded in the Simulink model?
Thanks -

By the way, I have been searching for a way to dock the x-y graph (2022b) for an hour without success. I think Mathworks should sample users' opinion before making major changes like these.

Chris - I completely agree. The ability to dock and undock other windows has existed in Matlab for a long time. I'm not sure why MW made this change but am hoping for an update to R2022a as I cannot update to R2022b.
The work around I've been using is to open the XY graph as a new Simulink window. This works but it's clunky.

Hi Jared,
I understand you have some concerns regarding the change in behavior for the MATLAB Function block in Simulink, specifically with the text editor now being docked within the model in R2022a. I understand that having the MATLAB editor in a separate window was a preferred workflow for you.
If you wish to undock the MATLAB Function block editor, you can follow these steps:
  1. Open your Simulink model.
  2. Drag and drop the MATLAB Function block onto your model.
  3. Press and hold the <SHIFT> key.
  4. Double-click on the MATLAB Function block to open the function for editing.
By holding down the <SHIFT> key while double-clicking the block, you can launch the MATLAB Function block editor in a separate window, providing the flexibility you are looking for in terms of editing the block outside the Simulink model.
Hope this helps!
