Installation doesn't start with admin rights under Linux

I have a following pretty weird problem:

First I installed MATLAB 2022b to upgrade to current version. That installation completed with no problem. But it turned out that our IT haven't yet upgraded the license server. So I deleted 2022b and downloaded 2022a.

But I am unable to start the installer. after

sudo ./install

no window appears and it gets stuck. Confusingly, the window does show up pretty quickly after simple

./install

but It doesn't let me to install in the system folders of course.

This is a remote machine with multiple users. It is accessed over VNC.

If I understand correctly, you are not able to run the installer on your Linux machine with admin privileges. It shows no error message & no window appears. You can run the installer without sudo, but the installer then does not have the required permissions.

This seems to be related to the environment variables not being passed from your user account to root when running the installer.

Still odd that the problem occurs with 2022a, but not with 2022b
