Running 2023b on MacOS (Apple Silicon).
MATLAB Version: 23.2.0.2428915 (R2023b) Update 4
======
I sometimes open a file to edit and the editor window remains blank for some time. Perhaps 30 seconds. Then the text appears.
Perhaps related, sometimes I right-click to copy or paste, and again there is a long lag. The system is unresponsive and then perhaps 30 seconds later the paste occurs.
Several of us in my lab have seen this behavior.
In searching the support pages, I see similar reports for several years back, but no clear fix in the comments. Is there an authoritative answer. Surely Copy/Paste must work by now. And the long lag for opening an m-file must have been fixed, too. Right?

It's probably unrelated and totally unhelpful, but I have periodic lag spikes where MATLAB will momentarily eat all 6 CPU cores randomly before it decides to do whatever I commanded it to do. I find that the behavior only manifests after MATLAB has been open for a few days, and that once it starts, it rapidly gets worse, eventually resulting in MATLAB cyclically loading all cores even while idle. I've found that that restarting MATLAB is the only fix. That said, I'm running R2019b on Linux, and it's not restricted to only happening while using the clipboard. This sounds like a Mac thing, but I figured I'd blab anyway. Maybe paying attention to CPU utilization and session time could be useful in troubleshooting.

Thanks. I really hope people from Mathworks respond. Too many ways these problems can arise. You and I can guess, but I bet they have seen the problem for years and know. They may not have a fix, but they know about it.

Hi Brian,
I came across a very similar MATLAB community question which has an accepted answer and I recommend you go through all the comments and answers.
A possible fix for this is to change your active directory to C:/.
Here is the link to the accepted answer:
If this doesn’t work, I would want to know more about your device specifications and is it the same for all other people facing this issue. Mentioning additional info about the memory occupied and type of files in your current directory would help.
Hope this helps!
