Function of specifying spread value while using newpnn function of neural networks??

I am using newpnn function in which if i specify the spread value as 1 ,i am getting output for same as trained feature,if i increases the spread the output for detected frames increases... my que is what is the influence of mentioning spread in newppn function??? How can i see the weight updation in newpnn function??

Weights are only created once but never updated.

The command

 type newpnn

reveals the source code.
