Version 2025a does not open the editor.

How can I make version 2025a read the session history and open the editor with the previously opened files?
After installation, a new prefdir is created for 2025, and all files from the 2024 version directory are transferred to it — including MATLABDesktop.xml, MATLAB_Editor_State.xml, History.xml, etc. However, the editor does not open.
Ctrl-Shift-0 doesn’t work either.
I tried deleting the 2025 version's prefdir, but that didn’t change the situation.
What should I do? I’d prefer not to open dozens of files manually.

Here’s one thing I definitely haven’t seen yet—unlike the 2024 version, the 2025 version doesn’t seem to read XML files.
It looks like the launch procedure does transfer the state files to the new version’s directory, but for some reason, the 2025 version doesn’t read the configuration files after that.

I dare say that the 2025 version does read a configuration file — just not the right one, and not from the right location.
What it definitely doesn’t do is read the configuration files transferred from the previous version.
Beyond that, it’s hard for me to say anything with certainty since I don’t know the loading protocols.
@Adam Danz as for the thread you mentioned — of course I read it and followed all the steps. But they ended up telling me to create a new thread.
And here we are :)

What leads you to believe they are copies transferred from 2024, rather than just blank slate reinstatllations? I am finding that R2025a has zero memory of any of my settings and preferences from R2024b, see also
That said, if you just reopen the editor files manually in R2025a, I am not having any issues with it remembering the editor state from session to session.

@Matt J: I posted an answer over on your other thread, I wonder if the same answer will work here.
@Andrey: Can you try the steps I mentioned on this thread and see if they work for you?

File comparison in Notepad++
The files in the 2025 directory are from the 2024 directory.

@Benjamin Kraus Yes, it worked — thank you so much!!!
This evening I’ll try to figure out what’s causing this behavior.
How do I accept the answer?

I have lost several times my Quick access shortcuts and my previous session of opened files in the editor since I swtiched to the latest Matlab verrsion 2025a.
Is there a way to have this more stable, or ideally to save/restore a configuration/state for these shortcuts and opened files ?
