Suggestions for GUI design

Dear Sirs, I want to design a graphical interface with the following requirements: - I should have a graphical matrix (with 64*64 square buttons close one to each other) where I can draw a shape - when I click one button I want the button color's to change and the button to be active but also I want to have a ROUND shadow (of other color, and it will overlap with others round shadows if the draw is more complex). Please suggest me how to make it in Matlab (especially the round colored shadow over the rectangular buttons). Thank you very much.
