Image preprocessing to get the best input for Neuro Fuzzy Classifier

Dear respectful seniors, I am just beginner of image processing with Matlab and doing Master Thesis by Neuro Fuzzy in lung cancer diagnosis.So,I need to know what steps are needed in image pre processing in details.I need to know if I will do how , I can get the best output.Please help me.Im in a in tight corner though.Thanks you very much.
