How to get MATLAB to recognise components on a PCB board

So far what I have done is get MATLAB to convert the image to black and white and then to do some edge detection so that the components are more visible. For now I just want to get MATLAB to recognise the massive PIC in the middle of the image which can be shown below. After i want it to start detecting other components but baby steps first.
I have made a library (so far just an image of the PIC on its own) which is also black and white which can be seen below.
Would you say i have taken the correct approach and are there any function that can be used in MATLAB that would help me find that PIC from my library in the first image?

I want to teach fiducial points. Then he will search for these points in certain areas and determine his coordinate. According to the first reference, the periodic, that is, sliding of the pcb is determined.
