Using a defined variable between functions?

I am trying to do data analysis on a file. I have an input for file name in my first function as an assigned variable fileName. I have a second function, where I'm trying to use fileName (without loading it again) to do further analysis. I tried naming the variable as Persistent; but it still didn't work. Any help on this code is appreciated.
