matrix of vectors in matlab (cell of arrays)

This is my matrix

a = {[1  2  3  4];
     [5  6  7  8];
     [9 10 11 12]}

I need to calculate the exponential like that:

{[exp(1) exp(2)  exp(3)  exp(4) ];
 [exp(5) exp(6)  exp(7)  exp(8) ];
 [exp(9) exp(10) exp(11) exp(12)]}
