Installing MATLAB 2016a creates blue screen and stops Windows from booting

The problem On my work PC I tried to install MATLAB 2016a, but then all went wrong during the installation. I got a blue screen with the error message: "page fault in nonpaged area" and my computer wouldn't boot anymore. I went back to my old image of a working system and again it broke down during the installation of MATLAB. I already had 2015a installed, and did not uninstall it before installing 2016a. The question: Does anybody know what could've caused this problem? Has anybody experienced similar issues?
What I tried to solve it
I checked to see if all drivers were up to date, and apart from an old graphics card driver (for a quadro 600) and a missing Intel VGA driver (since I don't use it) it was all ok according to Driverchecker (driverchecker.com). What I did now again write the old image onto my SSD. Then uninstall and deactivate MATLAB 2015a and then install 2016a. This seems to have worked so far, but considering the arbitrary nature of BSOD's, I won't believe it till it runs stable for at least a week.
More information
Considering blue screens are often related to hardware, some more about my PC: Windows 7 enterprise; i5-4690; 16 GB RAM (Crucial ballistix, 1600 MHz); Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK motherboard; Intel S3500 SSD 240GB; HGST Ultrastar 7K4000 2TB; Nvidia Quadro 2000.

That error usually is caused by faulty RAM. Have you tried running memtest86? You should try it with one stick of RAM at a time. If there aren't any errors, can you try installing MATLAB 2016a with just one stick of RAM in your computer?
