Marking a point on a graph

I want to mark a few points in my graph. Which by itself isn't a big deal. I can just do:

 plot(x,y,'ro')

But i want more freedom in doing this. With the above command it creates a marker of hollow 'O'. i want a solid 'O' and the freedom to change the color of marker. How can i change the shape and color of the marker.
