how do I reload last session in matlab and not lose anything in student versions?

I have student version of matlab. WHen I was using the on-line version in a course, the software always saved what I was doing, the whole math sheet including all commands used, and restored it when I started the on-line version. THis student version erases everything. How do I save the student version and have it work like the on-line version, saving every command? THe command box itself can be hard to find when I start the student version.

I believe this may because the option 'Don't save history file' may be checked.
In that case, you can save the command history by enabling the option by navigating to Preferences->Command History. Uncheck the option 'Don't save history file' and restart MATLAB.

Now since you are finding it difficult to open and dock the Command Window each time, just save the current layout. Also check the Docked option found in Home->Layout->Show->Command History.
