Hi
I'm trying to find the similarity in two signals, and the phase lag of at which the similarity is maximum. I'm unsure whether to use xcov or xcorr. I know that, practically, xcov() subtracts the mean from the input and and xcorr() does not. But I don't know which of these is most appropriate to use. Does anyone know of any good resource that can help me figure out which is most appropriate?
Thanks in advance Jen

It depends on your specific definitions I guess. If exact amplitude, including a non-zero centre is unimportant then use the one that subtracts out the mean, but if you want the signals to be considered different if one is not zero-centred whereas the other is then use xcorr

Hi,
I understand that you are trying to figure out whether to use xcov and xcorr functions.
Please go through the following documentation to read more about use cases of xcov and xcorr functions.
Hope this helps!
Thanks,
