Matlab function compiled for Java that uses parcluster

I'm trying to deploy a basic function that makes use of parcluster/jobs to java(jar). When I run the function in Java, I get this error on the matlab line where I create a parcluster instance:
java.lang.IllegalStateException: An application can only use one MCR component that uses Parallel Computing Toolbox functionality.
Matlab line: myCluster = parcluster();
I've also tried a variety of ways to create a parcluster instance, but to no avail.
This is the only instance in the java code where I call a matlab function. Any ideas?
