How to apply SHANBHAG image auto-threshold?

I am in a process of applying SHANBHAG adaptive threshold to medical images to extract lesions. It is a modified type of max entropy auto-thresholding, published in 1994 by A. G. Shanbhag, in Graphical Models and Image Processing Journal, Volume 56, No. 5, pp 414-419. The method is available in image processing platforms such as ImageJ. How to apply it in MATLAB?
