i have an .tir file which has temperature data (thermal image). Now i want to remove the background noise (background temperature data) without losing temperature data of the object.

this is an image taken from the thermal imaging camera. it is in .jpg format. but, i cannot extract temperature data from this.

What are the inputs? A .tir file or a .jpg file? What exactly is the problem with importing the file? If it is a jpeg, imread should solve the problem directly.

Actually, i have taken a image using thermal imaging camera (testo 868). from this i will get a thermal image file that will be in .BMT format. i want to import this file in matlab. if this file format doesn't support for matlab i have another option of converting this .bmt file into a jpeg file. but, if i do this i will be getting only jpeg image without my temperature data. actually thermal images will be having temperature data in each pixel(dark red colour denotes higher temperature and blue colour for lower temperature). this data will not be available to me if i convert this file to jpeg format.

i have attached a jpeg file. now i want to remove the background from this image and i also want to know all the temperature value inside the object. temperature and colour correlation can be known from the chart provided in the right side of the image. i hope you will understand for what i was asking this.

Do you know anything about the .BMT file format? Perhaps a link to a definition of the format or some software, which creates it? Why do the information about the temperature vanish when you convert the data to a JPEG? You still have the color information, so what is missing? What is the "background" you want to remove? The red or the blue area?

i want to remove the red colour(color) background. if i remove that i will get only the blue colour object. but after getting that what i have to do to extract the temperature values (Avg. temp, Max.temp, Min.temp, std. deviation ). i actually wants to use the temperature chart provided in the right side of the image. so, is it possible to import that temperature bar as a image and give maximum and minimum temperature value to it and interpretate that with the existing image to get the temperature data. if possible please tell me the code....

What does "remove" mean? Replace it with white pixels? Crop the image to get a tight rectangle? Where does the temperature chart come from? Why do you want to import it instead of using a standard colorbar in Matlab?

As far as I understand the problem is, that you import the RGB-values in the JPEG image, but do not have the information about the relation between colors and temperatures. If this is the problem, you need to search this information in the function, which records the image and exports the data. You cannot magically create this inside Matlab, but this relation is a part of the measurement.
