In earlier versions of matlab, the top-bar commands were called 'shortcuts' and could be accessed via the keyboard input Alt+[number], with [number] corresponding to the location of the shortcut within all of your shortcuts on the top bar. 'Shortcuts' have been renamed 'Favorites' (I think in 2018a?) and no longer seem to have this keyboard functionality. Is there any way to access top-bar 'Favorites' via any keyboard inputs? This function was incredibly convenient, for example, for quickly closing figures and images...

I am using R2018a and I can use Alt+[1], Alt+[2], etc. in order to run Favorite Commands.

In order to add Favorite Commands to the Quick Access toolbar, go to
  • Home => Preferences => Toolbars => Toolbar: Quick Access
  • or Right Click on Quick Access Toolbar => Customize
then in the category [+] Home => [+] Favorites => [+] Favorite Commands
you can select the ones that you have previously defined.

Hi Andrew,
You can always look at the release notes and identify the changes between different releases.
About you particular query follow this link (also look at screenshot below):

You need to move the "favorite" you have created to the "quick access toolbar". Basically, click on favorites and there should be an option to do this next to the favorite you prefer. After moving it, hold down alt and you should see a number attached to it in the toolbar. If this is the case, you can now access it by using alt + that number (typically number 1).
