Hi, I am new with Mac computers and I have some basic familiarity with Linux systems. I have installed Matlab 2010b on my laptop (Mac OS X 10.6.6). Suddenly I noticed that every time I start Matlab for the first time, it takes forever (5-10 minutes) for the Matlab window to show up (even when I type matlab -nodesktop in the Terminal). However, if I type matlab -nojvm, it starts right away.
I have tried reinstalling Matlab and reinstalling the update for Java (Version: 1.6.0_22-b04-307), but nothing seems to be working. I have Java 64-bit available and I have installed the 64-bit version of Matlab.
This has been puzzling me for a few days, and I have searched all possibilities online and couldn't find an answer for that. I would appreciate if someone could help me with that. Please let me know if you need additional info.

I recommend that you contact Mathworks support on this issue. There is free support for installation issues.

Dear Walter
Checking a few more sites, I was able to find some error messages in the Console on my Mac. Here are they:
01/25/2011 23:45:38 [0x0-0x12012].com.mathworks.matlab[150] Tue Jan 25 23:45:38 pinga MATLAB_maci64[150] Error: kCGErrorIllegalArgument: CGSOrderWindowList

01/25/2011 23:45:38 com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[104] ([0x0-0x12012].com.mathworks.matlab[150]) Tried to setup shared memory more than once

Do you (or anyone else) know exactly what these messages mean?
Thank you
Rafael

According to this discussion, the first of those errors is a conflict between newer processors and Apple's Rosetta Stone. Further down in the discussion towards the bottom of the page, someone shows how to disable Rosetta Stone.

Thanks Walter. I wonder if I disable Rosetta Stone, it will affect the performance of my computer. A few other things I noticed that may (or may not) be relevant:
After installing Matlab R2010b, I did install XCODE, macports and fink, I downloaded g95, gfortran, and other applications (nedit).
One thing I notice is that the Matlab icon in my dock use to bounce after clicking on it, and the X11 icon would also appear. Now, that does not happen. It bounces once and it takes about 10 minutes to load Matlab. X11 no longer appears. The funny thing is that it only happens the first time I start Matlab after turning on the laptop. If I quit, and start it again, it takes a few seconds only.
As I said, I am not very familiar with Macs, so I am trying to provide as much information as possible here.
