MATLAB crashes trying to open a saved .fig file

I used the "tight_subplot" functionto draw 5 subplots and saved the figure as .fig. later on MATLAB crashed when I tried to open the figure by double clicking on the .fig file.

I would recommend sending this to MathWorks technical support (share the *.fig file). Home -> Request Support.

Just as a sanity check was the fig file created in the same release as the one you are opening? Feel free to share it with others if you can so we can validate if we too can open it.

If I remeber correctly, I figured that it crashes when I try to open a saved figure that has data tip in it. Matlab support was working on it for a while and they said it was a bug and they will fix it in the 2019 release.

here's the example. I have two groups, each has three boxes. so x would be a 1x2 cell array and each element is a 3xp matrix. but if I have data with unequal length , let's say

group 1: a,b,c

size(a)= 1x20;

size(b)= 1x30;

size(c) = 1x15

I cannot packed them into a 3 column matrix with p rows.

The underlined section above is incorrect.

From the documentation, boxplotGroup(x) receives a 1xm cell array where each element is a matrix with n columns and produces n groups of boxplot boxes with m boxes per group.

From the first example within the example file, the following input is a 1x3 cell array and each element contains 4 column. That results in 4 groups with 3 members per group.

x = {rand(100,4),  rand(20,4)*.8,  rand(1000,4)+.2};

Maybe this illustration will help

data = {[a, x], [b, y], [c, z]}

You're assuming that the crash (I assume you're receiving a crash) is caused by the same problem that caused the crash last December. That's not necessarily the case.

Please send the crash log file and the figure file to Technical Support so they can investigate what's causing your MATLAB to crash and potentially how to fix the figure file and/or avoid the crash.

I sent the error and figures to MathWorks technical support . It was a bug which is solved in 2019 version. I had data tips on the saved figures which caused the crash. It was fine without saving the data tip.
