what should i do for error 'Undefined function or method 'state' for input arguments of type 'char' when using 'SS' command?

I am using State space modelling 'SS' for modelling of BLDC motor I gave command 'sys= ss(A,B,C,D);'when i run the program i got the error'Undefined function or method 'state' for input arguments of type 'char'.what can be done for this?Kindly help me

The state-space input matrices to the 'ss' command should all be numeric and have the following size relationships:
A: p x p
B: p x q
C: r x p
D: r x q

Without seeing the contents of your variables A,B,C,D it is impossible to guess the reason.
As usual the debugger is a good idea whenever an error occurs:
dbstop if error
Then start your program again until it stops at the failing line. Then inspect the local variables to find out, why the function state() is called with a CHAR as input.
