What is the latest version of Matlab that can be run on Mac OS El Capitan (10.11.6)?

The platform roadmap indicates that release R2018a was the last supported on OS X 10.11 and checking the table of system requirements for previous releases confirms this.

In practice R2018b will also mostly work if you are using en-us locale and you have a real Ethernet port (I would need to more research to find out exactly when the issues with only having wifi interfaces was fixed)
