Do I need to download Matlab 2020a again after getting the prereleased version?

I just downloaded the prereleased version of Matlab 2020a. Does this mean I will have to download it again after the full release, or will there be an update so I don't have to download the millions of gigabytes again?

I had no issue installing 2020a and I'm now using it.

Note that by downloading the pre-release you agreed not to publicly discuss it.
pre-releases are indeed separate releases from the a and b full releases. They don't get 'upgraded' to full releases.

Yes. The prereleases differ from the full releases. The full release fixes some of the bugs discovered during beta testing. Not all features from the prerelease make it into the full release, as sometimes beta testing reveals a problem that cannot be fixed by the internal deadlines.
