Hello,
I am running MATLAB 2020a on Mac Pro (i9, 32 GB RAM) with macOS 10.14 (Mojave). MATLAB runs very very slowly. My script does not even have memory intensive operations. Even the fans are running at high gear. The same script runs normally on an older surface laptop. I tried all suggestions in other treads. None of them made a difference. Thanks.

Me too.... I do a lot of big data crunches with huge matrices and vectors.
BUT I should point out I am using 10.15 on the new maching
computer 1: 2017 iMac 4-core i7 4.2 GHZ, 64 GB, macOS 10.13
computer 2: 2020 iMac 10-core i9 3.6 GHZ, 128 GB, macOS 10.15
And computer 1 is basically faster at most real world applications. epecially with multiple matlab windows crunching. Computer 2 can be faster for some matrix calculations. But overall it usually is slower and always seems "throttled down". Now it may be that computer 1 is better at serial, single core tasks, because of its higher clock rating, but according to geekbench even single core the i9 should be faster, and multi-core it should be a lot faster. And that can't explain why when multiple windows are open the i9 does worse.
I have used Macs and Matlab since 1995! And I have never seen such bad results with supposedly such a faster computer. I am telling you Mathworks really needs to look into this.

Do you have a "window-snapping" app installed and active on your Mac? See this Answer for more information.

The Magnet app installed on my Macbook Pro was causing this problem. Right-Click on the Magnet icon on the top bar and quit while you use MatLab in order to have it running at full speed. Once you're done using MatLab just open the Magnet app again.
Don't know why it happens but just know that it works when you quit the Magnet app.

The issue cannot be understood with just the information which you have given. There may be several other factors which may hamper the speed of your machine. You may refer to the following link for more details about it-
You may also refer to Platform Road Map for MATLAB and Simulink page for more details.
