matrix, cell array, and table

I try to understand the basics.
  1. Can 'matrix' have non-numerical data?
  2. What is the difference of a matrix of numbers and a cell array of numbers?
  3. Is it correct to say that a table is a generalization of a matrix that can include non-numerical data?

Can 'matrix' have non-numerical data?
No matrix cannot have a non-numerical data. Eleemnts are accessed by matrix(i,j)
What is the difference of a matrix of numbers and a cell array of numbers?
A cell array can have non-numerical data, arrays of different sizes, matrices of different sizes. They will be accessed by {}.
Is it correct to say that a table is a generalization of a matrix that can include non-numerical data?
It need not be.

"It need not be."
Would you elaborate or provide a reference?

The data in ecel sheet can be read into a table. If you have a matrix....matrix can be converted into table by naming each column. If you have different arrays where each array represent different parameters for one specific object this can be converted to table. Read in table MATLAB. lot of examples are given.
