R2012b Paste to Workspace

In pasting data from Excel, this function appears to have been removed and replaced by the "Paste Excel Data" option in the variable editor. However, this interprets blank cells as zeros instead of NaN. This is highly problematic as blank cells are definitely not equal to zero and become the same as cells that are indeed equal to zero. Is there around this? Otherwise this seems to be a step backward...
Thanks, Alden

If you do copy-paste, can you try the context menue in the workspace browser and then paste? I tried it myself the first time :-) just a couple of minutes ago and worked for my purpose.

Thanks - this does indeed work! Any way to change the variable name before it's imported though? It defaults to "MatlabImportToolpaste2040984945990435395tmp" which I then have to rename in the workspace or command window.
